Postpartum support

What is a postpartum Doula?

A postpartum doula is a person who supports you after baby arrives and makes the transition home as smooth as possible.

While most mothers devour information about pregnancy and birth, they are pretty surprised at what happens after birth.  There you are, home with this tiny new person feeling all kinds of exhaustion, emotions and uncertainty about every little thing baby is doing or not doing. You are undergoing a massive life change. Your body is in need of deep rest to heal and your life has been flipped upside down.  It’s a beautiful kind of upside down, but no doubt overwhelming.

As your post-partum doula I am here to make this transition as easy as possible.

We will create a postpartum plan gathering all of your resources together in one place and set you up to feel as relaxed and loved up as possible. From meal planning with nutrient dense foods and herbal support to setting up your nest and learning how to care for your baby, there is a lot to understand about the postpartum period.

In every traditional culture around the world there was a period of rest referred to as the “first forty days” where the mother was taken care of so she could heal and bond with her baby. Traditionally this role was fulfilled by the village, maybe by your mother or mother-in-law and your aunts. Many of us no longer have that village. So I’ve got you covered.

Your needs may be different on different days and my support tools will shift accordingly, whether its catching up on your laundry, caring for the baby so you can shower and nap or providing grounded emotional support when your hormones are taking you on a ride. Whatever you're going through, I’m here for you and your family.

  • Steaming with herbs can increase blood flow to the pelvis for faster healing as well as provide antimicrobial cleansing. This warms the organs and can also calm the nervous system, shorten postpartum bleeding, and help the uterus move back into place more quickly.

  • Abyhanga ayurvedic oil massage relaxes the nervous system and eases anxiety. It can also help mothers ground into the body after intense labors and sleep deprivation.
